There is no "the method" for sending 14-bit values over an 8-bit link.

Many ways possible. It also depends on if you have one sensor to send data from, where it is enough to synchornize high/low byte, or if you have a multi-channel solution where you must also keep the synchronization between the channels.

What have you come up with yourself?
