Look at it this way: Silicon Labs wouldn't introduce a part in that package if they did not see a market for it. Obviously some big customer said: "We want this package, oh, yeah, it's gotta be COTS" so SiLabs built the part and added it to the catalog (the COTS part).

I mean, just because WE can't see a use for this part doesn't mean that there are no customers for it!
