I simply suggested that he could do this better and more easily in ASM.

The functions in ASM could easily be called from 'C'. The rest of his program could be in 'C' or mixed, or whatever he likes. Further, it's really unlikely he needs floats. The type of thing he's apparently doing (PID) would, IMHO, work fine in fixed-point (integer) arithmetic, and, in fact, might produce better and more easily applicable results.
