#162979 - I am getting the output.
Responding to: ???'s previous message
I have been in to previous threads and found that the function set '0x38' has to be entered twice.
don't know why but it worked. now it functions great.

http://www.electrokit.se/download/...SERIES.pdf suggests that pin 15 might best be connected to Vcc and 16 to GND.

we can't do that. there is no internal resister in series with the back light led. so connecting directly may result in loading.
I do have a few doubts here. how much current the LCD back light led takes? it is mentioned that the back light led has drop of 4.2 volts!
and are there any LCDs with internal resistor for back led, and with the same pitch as of JHD162a?

I also heard that it takes arround 80mA (not sure) so I am not using that feature as for such high current!
