#186118 - "elegant" solutions that backfired |
http://www.8052.com/forumchat/read/186041 has the following:
Switching to external with no external clock source present will essentially turn off [the watchdog] that runs off that clock. Is it just me or does this arrangement have a design flaw? One write can essentially turn off the watchdog and the reset controller The above is beautiful, some want to run the WD from a separate clock, some do not (use a bit - sounds good). That it effectually makes the watchdog worthless was never realized (or was it ignored?). I am sure I know of more but the only one that comes to mind right now is the STM32f1xx I²C where the designers decided to double buffer it (sounds nice) and as a result ended up with workarounds galore in the errata. Who has more - naah, let's not limit it to chips, go ahead tell us about the good ideas you or someone else had that backfired. Erik |
