Sometimes you have to wander how we ever got to computers/cell phones etc. This is basic electronics and it is called a "design idea". I don't know which is worse: a PhD (albeit in Physics) thinking it is a great idea or a reviewer thinking that there is any originality in it. It makes a mockery of any other design idea published.
