Vacuum fluorescent displays 2x16 are much brighter and contrast is very high - so visibility is much better than with ordinary 2x16 LCD. Price is much greater too. Search "Noritake" at www.mouser.com. But it is much easy than DIY LED matrix 80x7x2 or TFT VGA LCD in text mode.
