the sum of any series 1..n is given by n(n+1)/2
I cannot remember who it was but some famous mathematian was set the the problem of adding from 1 to 100 by his school teacher who was expecting a quiet hour to have a snooze. You've got n/2 pairs of numbers which add to n+1 1+100=101 2+99=101 and so on. |
