#163698 - Linen Bi-planes Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi Oliver,
Compton Abbas airfield isn't too far away, where you can get a pleasure flight in an old "string and linen" biplane. You reminded me of my younger days. I had a friend whose father had an old linen-skinned bi-plane, and it had mechanical cables (some exposed) to manipulate the flight control surfaces. They lived on a small farm in Southwest Louisiana (where I grew up). He used it to dust his crops, that is when it was flying. Most often it just occupied space in his shop (which had a lot to do with why I never flew in it). Joe |
