#145942 - Formal definition of SPI? |

FTDI is treating the acronym 'SPI' VERY losely. The interface is NOT SPI as we know [it].
http://www.8052.com/forum/read.phtml?id=145883 So, the question is: is there a formal, "official" definition of what makes "SPI"? If so, what's it called, and where to get it? Like NXP (nee Philips) publish the I2C specification? [update] Yes, there are plenty of documents on the Freescale (nee Motorola) site that describe the specific SPI features of specific chips - but is there a "root" document that specifies SPI itself?
