Did you want to implement full or reduced functional Zigbee stack in an classic '51 variant? Thats difficult! I had used CC2420 interfaced through SPI, but the radio chip was used simply a RF transceiver, not a full blown Zigbee implementation. You could do in similar lines using a '51 with SPI.
