I doubt it is really floating point which is necessary here. Trigonometric functions, no doubt. Multiple precision, maybe. But I doubt there is really a need for numbers in several (tens) orders of magnitude, to justify the semilogaritmic notation float in fact is.

Maybe this topic deserves more attention. Would a "fixed point" trigono/logexp library be of any use?
