I really don't know. But it made me laugh. It's comedy, don't read too much into it.

The guys that scripted MST3K were pretty versatile, though. I remember one specifically where the people in the movie were operating on someone and had the abdomen all opened up and one of the three commentators said, "Well, while we're in here we might as well install a SCSI port."

There were lots of little jokes like that really were targeted at a very small demographic. And I'm sure lots of things they said that I didn't laugh at made other people with knowledge of other areas laugh.
