#139914 - USB-to-RS232 - freeing-up COM ports? |
When a USB-to-RS232 adaptor has been used on a PC, it tends to "reserve" a COM port number to itself - so no other device can ever use that COM port number, whether or not the particular adaptor is plugged-in at the time.
Over the years, I've used various USB-to-RS232 adaptors, with the result that the next free COM port number is now something like COM15: Some of these adaptors are long gone, so does anyone know of a way identify and free-up these defunct "reserved" COM port numbers? I'm using Windows-XP. |
