Back in about 1996 I worked with an engineer that tied a short length of rope on his refrigerator door. While relaxing in his favorite recliner he would signal his dog to get the beer. The dog could open the refrigerator door by means of the rope and then get out a beer and bring it to him. If I recall correctly I believe the dog got to share some of the beer in a dish by the chair as a reward.
