I found a few interesting LCDs while web-surfing recently. Maybe they will be of use to someone. The summary is that they support character sets beyond the traditional 7/8-bit ASCII sets we normally encounter in character LCDs. They interface the same as a 44780 based beast, but offer additional functionality (finally!). And not expensive.
