#123039 - Did one with XPort Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The biggest headache was getting an IP address out of the IT people when we wanted to hook it all up!
We used the Com Port Redirector program to assign the XPort-attached device a fixed com port # and fixed IP address. It worked pretty well. Overall I'd say it's better than USB-to-Serial devices which we have also used. For the USB case, we eventually abandoned them and just rolled our own solution. I don't see that happening with TCP/IP. We tested some of the other protocols, but serial-to-IP was what we were after and so that's all we really got into at any depth. And it was just RS-232 replacement (RX, TX only). Someone mentioned Tibbo. They are about the same price but don't offer the encryption option. I know the guy that designed the XPort chip. It's like having a PC AT computer in a very tiny chip. Lantronix also offer a WiFi version so that's another option we might pursue later. GB |
