#119951 - New editable FAQ System Online
As per our previous discussions, I have modified the FAQ system so that it is based on the message forum software.

Creating new FAQs

Here are the highlights:

1. You may add an FAQ from the FAQ page.
2. When adding a brand new FAQ, the subject must be framed as a question which you will then answer in the body of the message.
3. You must select a FAQ category for the FAQ you post. If you think we need additional FAQ categories, please let me know.
4. FAQs posted may use the same editing/message features of the forum.
5. You may edit your own FAQ entries at any time, be it 5 minutes from now or 15 years from now.

Erroneous Content

If you find a FAQ entry that is wrong or that you feel is missing pertinent information, please try contacting the author of the FAQ entry to suggest corrections and/or additional information. If the author doesn't respond--or refuses the changes--please contact me. Depending on the situation, I may make the changes myself if I agree they are warranted.

Additional Information

If you have additional information or an alternative approach, you may add additional entries to the FAQ. These entires will appear after the existing FAQ content. You may add an entry to an existing FAQ by clicking on the link at the bottom of the FAQ page.

When adding additional information to a FAQ page, please do not contradict the original post. If there's an error in the original FAQ, contact the author and/or contact me. If there's an error, it needs to be corrected. However, if you have additional information or another valid alternative approach, you may add your additional content by clicking the link.

When possible, try to avoid adding additional responses to FAQ entries. The FAQs are primarily for people that are already a bit lost, so we want to try to make the FAQ entry as concise and accurate as possible. Your first course of action should always be to contact the author of the FAQ content to see if he will consider your corrections/alternative responses for inclusion in the already-existing text.

Moderation

The FAQ system is not a message forum. We want the FAQ database to be as useful, concise, and easy-to-understand with as valuable content as possible. As such, the FAQ system will be heavily moderated. This means entries may be comletely deleted, a secondary entry for the FAQ may be combined with existing entries, the text of an entry may be modified to improve readability, and a FAQ may even be unlinked from its original author if the the original author appears uninterested or unwilling to maintain/correct his work, or if it makes sense to combine a secondary entry with other entries in the FAQ.

Comments

This new system is in a preliminary stage. If it actually results in more FAQ content, I will look into modifying it so that, for example, members can rate FAQ responses and the best answer to any given FAQ will actually rise to the top of that FAQ entry.

Also, I moved most of the FAQs from the previous FAQ systm to this new one. In the process, all the FAQs indicate that I am the author, even if I wasn't. If you recognize a FAQ you wrote and which you'd like to be attributed for and have edit rights to, please contact me and I'll adjust those FAQ entires on a case-by-case basis.

Feedback is welcome. PLEASE REPORT ANY BUGS VIA EMAIL, NOT BY POSTING IN THE PUBLIC MESSAGE FORUM.

Regards,
Craig Steiner
