#116351 - Lousy service by chip manufacturer |
I am getting really tired of the poor service being provided by one well known 8051 chip manufacturer (name witheld for the moment to protect the guilty).
This particular new derivative data sheet is dated December 2005 and contains 70 pages of technical information and hype about all the abilities of this wonderful new product but repeatedly refers to the "User Guide" for the programming details (how to configure I/O pins, etc.). After spending 1-1/2 hours searching their website and Googling the Internet for the "User Guide" for the x51xxxxx I gave up and emailed the chip manufacturer's support group. The response was "This User Guide does not exist - use the User Guide for the y51yyyy chip instead". How the heck am I supposed to know that? Furthermore, no assembly include files are available for this derivative on their website so I'm supposed to spend 4+ hours to put one together myself. Multiply this by hundreds or thousands of other design engineers duplicating my efforts and it really seems that the bean counters have totally won. I feel better already having written this rant. C library include files seem to be pretty well available from Keil, Raisenance, etc. but assembly include files are not as easy to find. Does anyone else think that it would be a good idea to try to put together an assembly include file library on 8052.com? I'm willing to contribute. Cheers, Bert |
