To answer your question, the problem is that the 3.3 regulator is not the issue. The fact that the battery terminals are exposed to 14 volts, albeit briefly, is out of spec and could damage the Li-Ion cells.
Thanks for pointing out the oversight on the cap. I could have sworn I read that as kai saying that the cap might be defective. - James |
