Hi Jon.
Writing 2 bytes will take 8 ms aprox. It is possible to use the "page write" mode that takes 4 ms for 1 to 32 bytes written. The only requirement is to write the fist byte in the beginning of a 32 byte page ($xx00, $xx20, $xx40, etc), with the rest in a consecutive way.
