Well, half an hour of messing in advanced options gained us programming - but only at 9600 baud, despite having an 11.0592 Mhz crystal. T1=80 T2=400 seems to "work" It looks to me like T2 effectively sets the delay before it starts to set ISP, after a T1 reset interval, but our reset interval is defined by the 701, at between 500 and 200msec - which means the ISP watchdog timer might be tripping us up.
