#182731 - Testing a 8052 development board |
Hi, I am pretty new to 8051/8052 development. I recently purchased a development board on eBay (link is here http://cgi.ebay.com/160609785784
It comes with what appears to be a USBasp programmer. I am already having trouble with it, and not sure if I have damaged the 8051 board with an overvoltage of 10v DC (for about 30 seconds - I thought the board had a proper voltage regulator.] The other possibility is that I just don't know how to use it properly, as it comes with very little documentation. When I apply 5v power, the 8-segment LEDs flash continuously and the buzzer has a fast stream of beeps that goes continously until I press switch S7. Note: I know that the microcontroller is fine, since it came with a AT89S52, and I have two other AT89S52 chips that produce the same result in this board. What I know: * Pins 1 through 8 each receive 5 volts when power is applied. * Pin 9 reads 1.3mV unless I hold down switch S7. When I hold down that switch, Pin 9 reads 5V * Pins 31 and 40 read 5 Volts. * When I remove the crystal, the buzzer stops. The 8-segment display usually blanks, but if I "catch it right" 2 or 3 digits will remain lit on the display. * Pins 14 through 17 read 5 volts * Pin 20 is grounded * Pins 18 and 19 read 2.35 and 2.13 volts respectively with a 12 Mhz crystal inserted * If I replace the 12 mhz crystal with 11.0592 Mhz I get the same action, but the buzzer gets a little faster or slower (expected I guess) * The board comes with AVR Fighter (and is supposed to work with ProgISP 1.72), but I may be confused about how to use those. * Should I use just the USBasp board plugged in when programming, or does it need external power? * When I use AVR Fighter to connect, it seems to send HEX files to the board, because it takes a couple of seconds to send, during which the buzzer stops making noise. But when the program is finished sendind, the buzzer continues to buzz. * Should I remove jumper J1 on the USBasp? It doesn't seem to make a difference whether it is there or not. Any tips? I can also upload a PDF of the circuit board (traces), but I don't think it includes a Bill of materials or a real schematic. Thanks for the help. I can send pictures if you need me to. |
