#181771 - Winbond and ISP
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Compatibility in the basic functions of the '51 core does not mean 100% functional compatibility in every respect. The device programming does not have an established standard.

Try to search for Stefan Kanev's posts on this Forum. In the past, he complained several times that Winbond does not factory install a bootloader into their ISP-capable microcontrollers; only recently he reported that the newer parts already have a bootloader installed.

Also note, that the microcontrollers business of Winbond has been spun off to a new company called Nuvoton. If your chips bear the Winbond logo, chances are that they are of older variety.
