Those "multifunction" devices are a "jack of all trades, and master of none." I'm not happy with the print quality, and cost, nor am I happy with the scan quality. You're probably right ... they're not built by the same division as builds the laser printers.
Unfortunately, I sometimes, in the past, have had to buy new ink cartridges each time I had to print the deliverable documentation for a project, as the printer allows the ink to dry out, necessitating new sets of cartridges each time. The document printer goes idle for weeks at a time, and, of course, I don't find that color contributes much, but is occasionally helpful. Laser toner is expensive, but it doesn't dry out. That's why I use the laser printer, rather than an inkjet. It costs about twice as much, over time, to use inkjets, and that doesn't take into account the ink that's wasted because a tricolor cartridge has used up all the cyan ink, even though magenta and yellow were still abundant. It doesn't even take into account that the ink dries out if not used within a limited time. If one uses his printers at a constant rate, the inkjet is probably acceptable, but if one uses them in bursts, i.e. five reams of paper in a week, but only six times a year, well ... RE |
