Just as Andy notes, it seems very much like you have been missing the meaning of the control codes.

A text terminal program isn't the best to send control characters to a printer.

Look for a sample program that opens the serial port and sends information on it. Modify it to send the printer commands - but remember to look up the meaning of all the control codes in the 0 to 31 range of the ASCII table.

Have a look at this link for translation of the control codes to their numeric values.
