#162278 - to buffer, or not to buffer?
Hello All

I am in the middle of the design of a sort of 8051 remote control terminal. It will have a VFD display, and 12 pushbuttons each having a red and a green associated led. Despite the number of I/O's, its quite simple. It will be driven by a Silabs C8051F044.

Like several others here, I prefer to have a buffer of some sort between my micro and the nasty outside world. But in this case I have some doubt. Since these I/O's never leave the metal enclosure, is it really necessary with a buffer?

I should add that this isn’t a toy or something like it. Money isn’t a big issue; on the other hand "over engineering" could be!

Any comments appreciated

Have a nice day!
