As Jan said earlier, you should prove your hardware first.

Put a hardware loopback at the microcontroller end: if the microcontroller is socketed, just remove it from the socket & link the Rx & Tx pins in the socket.

  • If the PC then receives the looped-back data, you know that the problem is within the microcontroller;

  • If the PC then does not receive the looped-back data, you know that the problem is somewhere before the microcontroller...
