Hello
I need to communicate gsm module. as it use asci AT commands I ask if I can connect the modems serial port
directly to the microcontroller such as 89s51/8051 or I need interface?

Answers:
Yes

If the 80c51 is a 3V device and the GSM module has UART 3V CMOS logic serial in/out.

If it's 5v 80c51 then you will need some 5v to 3v logic conversion.

No

If the GSM terminal with RS232 i/o. You can't directly connect R232 to the pins of the 80c51 you will need a Rs232 logic level converter like a MAX232.

For RS232 See here

I find it best to get a GSM with RS232 in/out so you can connect it to a IBM PC and use a terminal program like Hyperterminal to send the AT commands 1st, testing and learning about the commands
