I would like to respectfully respond to the 'comments' in a professional manner. "Don't try to make him do what you know just because you don't know how to do what he wants." Well, perhaps not you ... Who did? We/I can help the gentleman, if we/I know what he wants to accomplish.
Hence, that's why I never suggest to people what I want them to do, but instead try to be helpful with what they intend to accomplish. It's one of the things you learn when dealing with people, especially in retail. That's why I said: Please clarify your objectives Please consider... These are just options Would I like people to using STAMPs or PICAxes? No, not really, I use a lot higher end hardware and software, but they have a place perhaps for some people, and a lot can be done with them. A have a fine example of a contractor who did things based on what he wanted, coincidentally using the 8051 family, in some parts where it was not the best thing to do. He refused to consider other solutions. The results were very harmful in terms of time, money, and the company's progress on said project. The kind of guy who would shoot down someone else's ideas and for some reason had to show off how "smart" he was(?). One can surmise that, if posts on a forum are met with aggression how will anyone benefit and why would anyone one be motivated to contribute? Perhaps we can show comradery and show positive achievement. Have a nice day. :^) Marty, It's all too common, here, that someone asks a question, or asks for suggestions on something not too specific, and everybody tells him what to do and how to do it in some way other than what he asked. Implicit in the fact that he posted his query on 8052.com is the notion that he's decided to use an 805x family member. It would be easy enough to tell him, simply, to buy this, and then that, e.g. a PIC-based async-serial to LCD interface, of which there are dozens, and a PS/2-to serial interface, of which there are also several if not many, and then simply run his BASIC52 on a programmed 8052 of one or another flavor. It seems pretty clear that he wants to make, rather than buy, his solution to whatever problem he imagines he's addressing, though. For example, the reason I recommended he GOOGLE on Ultramon51 was because there's a schematic published as part of the doc's, that specifically is targeted at BASIC52. In the event he simply wanted to build something that runs BASIC52, he'd have a circuit to use as a point of beginning. Now, we all know that BASIC52 relies on a dumb-terminal interface via the UART as a console. The O/P wanted to use an LCD panel and a PS/2 Keyboard. I found it interesting that, while some suggested PIC's or other components, nobody thought to suggest this simple solution, on the off-chance that would satisfy his desire. Clearly he didn't know what he really wanted. The fact that he hasn't replied at all to the various exhortations to provide a bit more information about his goals suggests he (A) was put off by the apparent misdirection, or (B) realized how little he actually knew about what he wanted to do.
