AUSTIN, TX -- Cygnal Integrated Products, Inc. today announced availability of the C8051F001, a field-programmable, mixed-signal system-on-chip optimized for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) laser control applications in optical communications systems. The C8051F001 combines a 12-bit precision analog data acquisition system with a high-speed, programmable 8051 compatible CPU and in-system programmable FLASH. It is supported by Cygnal's $99 development kit - a comprehensive development tool with capabilities typically found only in emulators costing thousands of dollars.
"Closed-loop laser control is commonly used in DWDM systems to ensure the optical source delivers constant wavelength and power output over the lifetime of the system. The precision analog data acquisition capability and high compute throughput of our C8051F001 enables a single chip solution for this application," said Don Alfano, Cygnal's Vice President of Marketing. "The C8051F001 replaces multiple chips, reducing cost and saving board space, while increasing system reliability. Furthermore, our in-system programmability enables easy system software upgrades."
The C8051F001 features an 8051 code-compatible CPU that delivers up to 20 MIPS at 20 MHz, 32Kbytes of in-system programmable FLASH memory, UART, SMBusTM, and SPITM serial interfaces, four 8051-style timers, and a five-channel, programmable counter array (PCA). Analog peripherals include an eight-channel, 12-bit analog-to-digital converter, a temperature sensor, two 12-bit digital-to-analog converters, two voltage comparators, and a voltage reference.
"Our customers have responded favorably to the performance and flexibility offered by our solutions," said Todd Levy, Cygnal's Director of Worldwide Sales. "Since introduction of the C8051Fxxx family in July 2000, over 300 customer design projects have been initiated using Cygnal C8051Fxxx products and development tools, some of which are associated with communications infrastructure equipment."
The C8051F001 is available in a 48-pin TQFP and sells for $12.48 in 1,000 piece quantities, and the C8051F000DK development kit sells for $99.00. Both are available for purchase at www.cygnal.com.
Development Kit Sweepstakes
To promote its flexible product and development tool solutions, Cygnal is sponsoring a "Development Kit Sweepstakes," giving away a C8051F000DK Development Kit each business day through December 31, 2000. Online registration and official rules are available on the Company's website at http://www.cygnal.com.
